<image:title>MOVIES - The Wrecking Crew (2026) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 The Wrecking Crew is not a Hollywood Blockbuster but it is a thoroughly enjoyable, over-the-top action-comedy. It has extreme violence that would make it unsuitable for younger ones but young teens will love it, as well as adults. Jason Momoa (Jonny) and Dave Bautista (James) are estranged brothers, who are brought together by the mysterious death of their father. They both live entirely different lives and there are underling emotions that have resulted in their strained relationship. They come together for their dad’s funeral and the story plays out from there. We’ve seen both actors play serious roles but they have a really good chemistry in this one and the humour really suits them both. Amazon seem to be way off the pace, in keeping up with Netflix in terms of quality and quantity and although this is not getting the highest rating from us - it’s an enjoyable, action-packed and definitely worth a watch if you’re after something easy to view. Its a 7.1/10 from us for this one.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - One Battle After Another (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 There is always going to be a lot of hype surrounding a movie when Leonardo DiCaprio is the Leading man - so I am absolutely not surprised that there has been a lot of hype about this movie. It’s a pretty big budget movie at a reported $130m. I’m am potentially going to be somewhat controversial by saying that I think this will split the audience 50/50. In the eyes of some, this is proper, cinematic storytelling with a plot absolutely bursting at the seams with intertwining side stories - which some critics pick apart to complain at a lack of character backstories. The acting is top notch throughout and it is a fully immersive movie experience, that deserves for you to put your phone away and watch. It’s dark and gritty, yet sometimes darkly comedic and relentless. Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio play their characters so well - and the rest of the cast do not let anyone down. It’s maniacal and fast moving but at the same time - the movie is over 2 hours long and sometimes feels slow…another thing that some critics pick at (the inconsistent pace). It’s essentially a story of a group who see themselves as “The Resistance”. It feels like it set 20 or 30 years ago but also feels current - with a familiar feeling political theme with ongoing real-world events and they are fighting for what they feel is right and just. There are overlapping love stories to add to the dark and gritty theme and it’s essentially a cat and mouse movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the cinematic experience and would score it higher than I’m going to - but I won’t because I don’t want my score to ill advise you to part with hard-earned cash to watch it... So for me - it was at least a 7.8/10 - but and its a big but - it’s not going to appeal to everyone. If you did NOT like ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ or ‘Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood’ or maybe even ‘Django Unchained’ - I don’t think you’ll like this much and you’ll score it in the 5/10 or 6/10 range. Don’t go in expecting a Wolf of Wall Street, Inception, Blood Diamond, Catch Me If You Can type movie…..it’s a totally different experience. I’d be keen to know what you think of this one - please comment below if you’ve seen it and what you thought.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - The Rip (2026) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Ben Affleck and Matt Damon re-unite in this Netflix exclusive movie - and we’re fans of both these guys. Not to jump into a rant of any sort but if you watch a lot of streaming services, you’ll no doubt agree that we are bombarded with an awful amount of sub-par, ‘guff’ - no doubt a reflection of a need to spew out movies in quantity, rather than quality? And I’m sure this is in no doubt down to reduced budgets - when compared with the high budget blockbusters of old. Now - when ‘I’ do TV and Movie reviews - I’m not subject to advanced screenings - I’m just letting you know what I’ve seen at a given time and what I think about it - so ‘The Rip’ isn’t my movie of the month for January - only because I’ve only just watched it in the last few days - but it would have been if I’d seen it at the start of the Month. For me, it is not a blockbuster movie but it gets a lot more hype by being fronted by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon…and seems to be far better advertised in the media as a result - they seem to be having quite the press tour. In my opinion, this is the standard of movie we should be seeing from the streaming services - it’s excellent. Some of the critics out there are chopping it to pieces and not giving it the best review but for me it’s better than good. It’s a Police-Crime-Thriller that has enough action to keep your attention and if you like a “whodunnit” thriller - this should keep you guessing right up to the end. The movie follows a team of Miami Cops who are tipped off about a stash of illegally sought money, in a house in the suburbs and they make plans to head in to retrieve the loot. They happen across a lot more money than was anticipated and we see different sort of pressures added to the relationships within the group and begin to wonder who is loyal, who is corrupt and who can or cannot be trusted. In the sphere of streaming movies, I cannot score this anything less than a more than solid 7.5/10 - and with it being a success, I hope it leads to not just a Rip 2, 3 etc but I hope it also starts to set the standard of movie we can hope to see more of, on these subscription services. Have a quick watch of the trailer below - if you like the look of it, go for it!</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Zootropolis 2 / Zootopia 2 (2025) - AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated PG To start with - a bit of a rant…1 - why does a movie need to have the 2 different names - Zootopia (Worldwide) and Zootropolis (UK)? 2. I’ve been sooooo disappointed in the movie selection recently - the amount of what must be relatively low budget movies being spewed out on streaming services seems to have far exceeded the good old blockbuster movie. It’s made it nearly impossible to find anything to suggest to you. Knowing that most of us out there are not necessarily in a good position of wealth and that most of us pay for streaming services as our piece of luxury each month. So I do try to steer clear of movies you have to pay to rent or go to the cinema for. Anyway, rant aside - the first movie was really good fun and high quality animated graphics - with a good storyline. This time round we follow rabbit cop Judy Hopps and fox - Nick Wilde while they take on their latest assignment. It’s a reptilian theme this time round and a very good follow up to the original…it almost feels like it can be an endless movie franchise and I expect we should expect at least another couple of movies from the Zootropolis / Zootopia team. It’s been out for a few months now but is still showing in some Cinemas (Jan 2026) - and expected to be on Disney+ streaming channel around March/April…so you might be able to get it a bit cheaper for a trip out with the kids or if you want to wait - hopefully only a couple of months until you can stream - but very much worth a watch! My kids are a bit older now so the allure of animated movies is waning but our youngest (13) still enjoyed it and both me and his mum did too. A solid 7.7/10 - and look forward to the 3rd one.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - In The Lost Lands (2023) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 By no means an award winning movie but it is slim pickings at the moment ahead of the Christmas Movie period. A sorceress, who can refuse no-one (upon payment) to grant their wish - takes on a request from a queen - that requires her to enter the dangerous and mysterious “Lost lands”. It’s set in post-apocalyptic times, where society is a mess - with a religious cult pulling the strings. It has a sort of Mad Max kind of vibe if that helps pain the picture. Dave Bautista plays Boyce - a mysterious hunter who is the person to turn to when entering the Lost Lands. He is employed by the sorceress to help her on her quests and there is plenty of trouble awaiting them. It’s an easy watch, far from brilliant but its not too long and a good time-filler if you want something on in the background without having to give it too much attention. We give it a lowly 5.1/10 , which may sound harsh but it’s where it’s at and you’ll feel the same after finishing it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 It has been a real struggle to find any movie worth talking about lately - even more so one to recommend as Movie of the Month but Netflix have it - with Guilliermo Del Toro’s - Frankenstein. It’s an age old story, told differently and works brilliantly on the screen. The acting is good, the graphics are good and it’s got quite a lot of suspense and action. The sets are brilliant - and I believe were actually constructed, the colour grading matches the mood and its an all round excellent adaption of the story of Dr Frankenstein and his monster. Plenty of hype around Jacob Elordi at the moment (and he must have suffered with the extent of the make-up for this role and a fine job by Oscar Isaac - as Dr Frankenstein, among others. All round excellent. Worthy of an 8.1/10 (possibly a bit more on another day) and it was able to hold the attention of our teenage son - which is worthy of points on its own nowadays! It is the best of the movies out there at the moment by quite a stretch - definitely worth a watch but if its any consolation once you’ve watched it, there are lots of great TV Series worth binging on rather than looking for another movie to watch - pop over to our tv reviews to see our recommendations.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - The Thursday Murder Club (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 12A It’s a bit of a struggle to choose a movie to recommend this month - as we’ve haven’t seen much on streaming services that made us want to shout from the rooftops but if we had to offer up something that could be watched by most ages - then The Thursday Murder Club can fit the bill. It’s not got a cinematic feel to it in the way you would sit an watch a good action - in fact, dare I say it - but to begin with, it had the feel of an over-acted Lindsay Lohan Christmas Movie and it took a bit of time to get into. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren seem to be everywhere at the moment and I don’t mind that at all really. The more time you give the movie, the better it becomes and in the end its not a bad whodunnit kind of movie. I think it would appeal to families and seniors and it doesn’t require too much attention to follow along. Simple and Fun and should have appeal for a variety of viewing demographics but nothing to write home about - 6.3/10. There are far more TV Series worth binging on, rather than searching for a movie - so check out our TV Show reviews for some much better alternatives.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>I don’t usually like to post a movie of the month that you have to pay over and above your typical streaming subscriptions…but this month it’s a shout out to Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which is now available to rent and buy. Now - do I think it’s the greatest action film ever made - not at all but I do think it’s time for a massive shout out to a fantastic movie franchise, that has certainly brought me and my family hours of entertainment over decades now. Tom Cruise is a fantastic actor and has always pushed the limits in his own stunts over the years and that has not changed at all with this movie. I got a bit nostalgic watching this one - knowing that we’re witnessing the end of an era, with this last chapter of the Mission: Impossible franchise - which had its first movie almost 30 years ago now, back in 1996 - believe it or not! The story continues on from the last movie, with the IMF team continuing their mission to deal with the AI known as ‘The Entity’. ‘The Entity’ having infiltrated global intelligence systems is threatening world-wide, catastrophic destruction and the IMF team need to shut The Entity down before it’s too late. Will they be successful, who will live, who will die? As expected, it’s action from the get-go and very entertaining. Now, the purpose of this post isn’t so much to get you to pay £13 or so to buy or rent this movie, but it’s a great opportunity to re-watch or binge watch the first 7 movies - I’ve tried my best to have a complete availability list below for you (as at the 1st September 2025): An entertaining, all-action send off from a franchise spanning 8 movies over 29 years - 7.5/10</image:caption>

It won’t appeal to everyone and it’s not an Oscar-worthy movie but it is classic Adam Sandler and a fine follow up to the first movie. I’m an Adam Sandler fan and in my younger years, I adored all his comedy movies - including Happy Gilmore of course. This movie effortlessly finds the same humour as the first, there are plenty of fun cameos and nods to characters from the first movie that are no longer here with us. It’s just good old, silly fun. In this movie, I’ll not give away the storyline away but essentially Happy has to overcome his demons, to save golf from the new school. Silly, fun, simple & nostalgic - for those who love Sandler and his old comedy movies - 7.4/10</image:caption>

When I read a bit about Sisu before watching, I thought I was in store for a low-budget, relatively low quality and subtitled movie and I was ok with that. However it exceeded all expectations (and is not all subtitles by the way). The movie is set in Finland, towards the end of the Second World War - as the Germans are being driven out of the country by the Finns. The Germans have a scorched earth mentality as they retreat - destroying everything they can. The storyline follows a military Finnish veteran, who seeks a simple, solitary life - after a troubled and violent military past (sounds like just about every Jason Statham movie description here doesn’t it?) and he and his dog are living out a gold prospecting existence in the Hinterland of Finland. Just as luck strikes, he is faced with a squad of retreating Germans and needless to say, they aren’t friendly - and they dont let him past without trouble. The bad news for them is that the Finn is one bad mofo. It’s not an epic…but its a level below. It’s simple and entertaining although as with most action movies - a little unbelievable - which you can easily forgive for the entertainment factor. The graphics are very graphic but all-in-all, a very entertaining watch. It’s only 1.5 hours long as well, so doesn’t take up much of your time. A surprisingly entertaining, action packed and well-earned 7.3/10 from us for Sisu. Think of it as the Finnish Rambo!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 Denzel returns for a 3rd instalment of the popular Equalizer franchise and does not disappoint. This time round, retired government assassin - Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) - finds himself in the care of a friendly Doctor in Southern Italy after sustaining injuries in a previous job. He finally feels like he has found a home to live out a peaceful and inconspicuous retirement but it doesn’t last long as his new friends, in his new home, are under constant threat of violence from the local crime bosses of the Italian mafia. Naturally, he’s going to have to do something about that. Denzel is in his 70’s now but still commands a role with ease. Some of what we see isn’t entirely believable but it doesn’t take away from what is some really great entertainment - an easy to watch action-thriller worthy of a 7.2/10 score.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 12 Netflix serves up a wholesome and sweet treat with Nonnas (puns intended) . Vince Vaughn plays Joe Scaravella - an Italian-American, who - after the passing of his beloved - seeks to honour her memory by opening an Italian restaurant with the idea that having authentic Italian food prepared by local Italian grandmothers. It wouldn’t be a good movie if it was as straight forward as that and you get emotionally involved as things go awry. It’s a really easy-to-watch, feel good kind of film with Vince Vaughn playing a what feels like a typical character for him. It’s based on a true story and goes at a fairly slow pace - which is fine if you haven’t the energy or patience to watch something too taxing. It might seem a bit low but it’s a warm-vibes 6.8/10 score from us.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Deep Cover (2025) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Deep Cover is a silly, fun and funny action/crime comedy with a good cast - full of cameos - who must have had a lot of fun filming this one. To very quickly summarise without giving anything away…the movie follows 3 improv actors, who end up being tasked to go undercover by the police - to assist with bringing down the crime gangs in the city. It’s really easy to watch, there are such stupid and simple laugh-out-loud moments and there isn’t too much more you really need to know about it. The timing of the release is really great if you’ve finished watching the likes of more gritty Brit shows like Mobland - as Paddy Considine plays a similar character but in a much more comedic role. It doesn’t get the best scores with critics and it won’t necessarily become a comedy classic that you’ll want to watch over and over, but in the current movie landscape, it’s one of the better releases available on streaming sites and is definitely worth a watch - especially if you are looking for something easy and fun to watch this weekend. You can follow along whilst doom-scrolling in the background - but you might miss some laugh out loud moments. With that, we’d suggest you put down the phones to fully enjoy this one and we give it a worthy 7.1/10 score.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Fountain of Youth (2025) - AVAILABLE ON APPLE TV+</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 12A I can very easily describe this movie as Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade meets National Treasure. Fountain of Youth follows two estranged siblings as one coerces the other into helping him find the Fountain of Youth. It’s a fun-filled, action adventure that is enjoyable enough for adults to watch and will most likely appeal to those in the 12 year old range (who haven’t seen the aforementioned movies that us oldies will have). Everything about the movie is good. The story is good, the pace is good, the acting is good and the graphics and effects are good. I can’t really complain about anything other than it just not feeling too original with the movies I’ve seen in the past but early teens will love it. It’s maybe flown under the radar a little with it being on Apple TV+ but its worth a watch if you’re looking for a family friendly action adventure. Kids will rate it in the 8’s but for us adults, with a bit of movie experience, it will land right in the 6.8/10 zone.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Heretic (2024) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Hugh Grant has lunged far away from the Rom-Coms from the early 2000’s that we know him best from. In this psychological-thriller/horror called Heretic, we get to witness a different side to Hugh Grant’s acting and he’s more than convincing playing the psychopath! It’s a simple, easy to watch thriller-come-horror, that follows two young Mormon missionaries - who knock on the wrong door whilst canvassing for conversions to their religious practice. Hugh Grant plays Mr Reed, who is the young religious ladies last call of the day and it just so happens that a storm is coming in when they get to his house. Behind his locked door, a cat and mouse type ordeal plays out that tests the girls faith to its limits. It’s not scary as such, but its creepy - so if you want dark but not jump scare - this is a really good watch. With thrillers and horrors - you expect the worst and we don’t really know how this will pan out. It’s a small cast and even with being confined to one property it’s a really good watch….(unlike Flight Risk). The storyline is good, the filming and lighting is excellent, the acting is really good too! It’s a solid 7.2/10 for this one if you like the genre - and if you have a partner who isn’t into horror, they should be able to stomach this one - but maybe don’t watch it with them right before bed.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - A Minecraft Movie (2025) - AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated PG If you have young children, you’ll probably know a fair bit of what Minecraft is. For those of you not so familiar - it’s a computer game. Everything is very simple graphics, created in a block/cube shaped manner and players can build or dig almost everything they desire in various worlds. There is more to it than that but that’s the basic premise. Kids love it and I mean love it….and it spans across a decent age range of kids who play it. A Minecraft Movie takes the game and makes a film out of it. My youngest, who is a player and fan of the game absolutely loved the movie. Jack Black himself is an infectious character and he exudes fun and energy in everything we see him do and he is no different in this movie. The Movie follows a group of misfits, with their own respective struggles in life but who’s paths cross. Circumstances result in them being pulled through a mysterious portal that transports them to a strange cubic world, that they have to survive and overcome before they are able to make it back home. It won’t be easy and they have to navigate many hurdles that also help them see their own inner qualities that make them who they are. As a parent/adult watching the movie, its a fun and easy watch that you can see will primarily appeal to the 2 - 13 age range and its not a painful watch for accompanying parents. It’s refreshing to see Jack play the hero role and Jason Momoa play a more silly character. It has Jumanji vibes if you were to compare it to another storyline. It’s not one that parent’s or adults will necessarily care about at all but if you have kids who play the game, they’ll love it and its not too painful to sit and watch with them. It’s a 6.2/10 but kids will say its a 10/10.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 18 Much to all of our delight, Tom Hardy has exploded back onto our screens in the fantastic TV Series - Mobland and also this new movie, Havoc. The movie follows Tom Hardy’s character - a no-nonsense and somewhat dirty-but-street-wise detective as he fights his way through a criminal underworld to rescue the son of a politician. The city that is portrayed has a Gotham-style vibe and its all dark scenes to go hand in hand with all the corruption and crime in the city. The acting is ok , the action is good. It’s over the top and pretty run-of-the-mill stuff. Someone was handed a budget to make a dark, crime fuelled action movie for Netflix and they did just that. It will fill a spot in your day if you wish but there will be no awards for this one. Basic, but easy to watch if there is nothing else on your radar. You won’t be missing out if you miss the movie and it’s somewhere around 5.5/10 for us.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 Memoir of a Snail - who, over the age of its 15 Rating, would possibly choose to watch a stop-motion animation called Memoir of a Snail?? The answer should be - Everyone! It’s a Tim Burton-esque/ Coraline-looking movie that will absolutely shock you with how good it actually is. I don’t think I would be exaggerating if I went as far as to say it is a masterpiece and you’ll only agree if you can find it to watch it. It is a dark, melancholic, somewhat sad, somewhat uplifting (I think) - life story of Grace Pudel, who becomes a bit of a sad soul that lives within a shell of herself, due to one-thing-after-another sort of life. The stop motion quality is fantastic and moves at pace, despite a depressing sort of atmosphere. Each scene is beautifully portrayed and you can expected to laugh out loud with surprise when the creators add another twist in her story to keep you captivated. Surprisingly brilliant and absolutely no surprise to read that it is Oscar Nominated - an unexpected but completely deserved 8.1/10</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 We have struggled to find many good movies to recommend this Month (April) but iHostage has just jumped to the top of the Netflix charts. It’s based on true events and very simply put - its about a gunman who has a stand-off with police and special forces after starting a hostage situation in an Apple store in Holland. It’s a Dutch film, which you can choose to watch dubbed or watch it in its native language with subtitles - I can’t stand dubbed films or shows so I would personally recommend the subtitle option…. It’s nothing special but its an easy watch. With it being based on true events, it feels like the script has just kept to an exact story and it doesn’t try to do anything special to bring it up a level. If you are looking for something decent to pass the time, this will do just nicely. A straight-forward, ‘does-exactly-what-it-says-on-the-tin’ 6.1/10 and no disrespect intended but it shows you the current movie landscape when its at number 1 in Netflix’s charts.</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX Rated 15 Jennifer Lawrence stars in this Teen Comedy about her haphazard character - a 30 something Maddie, who is on the brink of losing her home due to overburdening, unpaid tax bills. She happens across a unique job listing whereby a couple of parents are looking for someone to bring their severely introverted 19 year old son out of his shell, before he embarks on University life - out of fear that he won’t succeed as he is. Have no doubt - they aren’t looking for a friend for their son, they want a hot lady to “friend” him - nudge nudge wink wink - if you know what I mean. Maddie thinks this will be easy money but her full on approach is a bit much for the awkward son and the task proves to be much more difficult that she first thinks. It’s an easy watch and one you could probably scroll away on your phone at the same time - i.e. it doesn’t require much attention. <image:caption>AVAILABLE ON DISNEY+ Rated 15 Written and Directed by Jessie Eisenberg and co-starring Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain follows the story of two Jewish cousins from America, who have very much grown apart over time. They re-acquaint by embarking on a Jewish History Tour of Poland, as an ode to their recently deceased Jewish and Polish Grandmother - a holocaust survivor - but also to delve into their Jewish heritage, visiting various historically and culturally significant sites along the way. Without knowing too much about the movie beforehand and seeing it described in places as a comedy, in my opinion - it really isn’t. There are comedic moments throughout but it is more of a drama that centres on a multitude of the cousins’ different pains…from the stresses and emotional troubles of their own personal lives, to the sadness of the realising how they have grown apart so much, their grief for their beloved grandmother and the pain of better understanding the suffering of the Jewish community during the Holocaust during their tour. There is a comedy undertone but don’t watch this if you are looking for a feel-good, laugh-out-loud, silly sort of comedy. It’s a serious, somewhat dark comedy that is pretty deep. It is slow-paced but really well acted. For me, it goes into the same sort of category of “We Live in Time” with Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh….some will love the slow pace but it’s not something I personally enjoy. If you like the sort of movies that appear in the likes of the Sundance/Cannes Film Festivals, this will be right up your street - there is no question that these two can act - and really well…but it’s just not the sort of movie I’m into and with that I can only give it a modest 6.4/10.</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO Rated 15 Newly released on Amazon Prime Video is the The Last Voyage of the Demeter - based on a chapter of Bram Stokers ‘Dracula’. The movie plot is that of a Russian schooner (Large Sail Boat) - Demeter, which is chartered to transport a private cargo from Bulgaria to London. Some of the crew see the markings on the cargo boxes and refuse to take part in the voyage - so you know from the off, that something is amiss with this delivery. The outcome of the journey is revealed at the start of the movie - which then goes on to show the events that took place aboard the doomed Demeter on this particular voyage. Although a horror movie, its a timid one that won’t give you nightmares. There are some graphic scenes - so its the gore that certainly isn’t suitable for younger kids but I dont think young teens would have any issues with it. It’s an enjoyable watch - the acting and graphics are good and it just about moves at the right pace to keep your attention throughout. It’s not amazing but its worth a watch if you like the horror genre. With all that, it’s a fun but tame 6.1/10 from us.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - The Electric State (2025) - The Electric State (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX Rated 12A Newly released on Netflix is the high budget The Electric State, starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby-Brown. The film reportedly had a budget of £247 million and if that’s the case - it would be the most expensive film to air on a streaming service and puts epic classics in the shade, big style. The movie is set in a re-imagined 1990’s, in the aftermath of a robot v human war. It follows the story of a teenage girl called Michelle, who is orphaned after the death of her family in a car accident, that only she survives. A big tech company, who’s owner helped end the war - takes advantage of the state of the world and paralyses human productivity with an addictive VR Headset, that everyone owns and essentially live inside…society has crumbled. Michelle has an encounter with a rogue robot that leads her to believe that her younger brother might still be alive and she and the robot set off on an adventure to find out if that is true. Chris Pratt’s character is a mischievous dealer doing whatever it takes to make ends meet in this apocalyptic world and the two characters inevitably cross paths and their stories inter-twine. Slated by movie critics but still likely to be the most watch movie in Netflix history, it’s good but not great. The graphics show where the budget went - we were really impressed. Kids around 10 - 13 will really enjoy it and it’s a good one to watch as a family. It’s still good to watch as an adult but you might find yourself drifting towards your phone whilst the movie is still on. It’s a good, not great 6.4/10 from us. Enjoyable but not likely to watch again by choice…if the kids had it on in the background, I wouldn’t be upset about it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS Rated 15 If you are into your Brit-flicks, there is a good chance you are watching this 4th and final instalment of the Bridget Jones Movies having enjoyed the first three movies. Believe it or not, the popular first movie - Bridget Jones’s Diary, came out a frightening 24 years ago! If you haven’t seen the first three movies - please watch them first, so you understand the storyline and characters - spoiler alerts coming up if you haven’t. In this movie, Bridget is a single mum of two after sadly becoming widowed. The movie follows Bridget’s life as her family and friends encourage her back to work and to hopefully find love again. It will be a bit of a sentimental movie for anyone who has watched along since the first movie and its a decent send off. Personally, we hoped the storyline might have included more of Hugh Grants character (which unfortunately just wasn’t part of the plot this time round). It’s really just more clumsy, silly antics - blended with more heart-warming moments but overall it is likely a movie you’ll watch once and never again. There will be a niche of diehard fans who are already invested in the franchise - and will love it…but for the average movie-goer, it’s just ok. It’s had mixed reviews from the critics but for us its a basic 5.9/10 but before you jump down our throats, there will no doubt be a group of nostalgic Bridget Jones fans who will score this 8/10 or better. If you know what camp you are in - one of these scores will apply to you.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - The Gorge (2025) - The Gorge(2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON APPLE+TV Rated 15 I was beginning to worry that there would be no Movie of the Month to kick off March 2025…until I watched The Gorge. Although TV series have been smashing it so far this year, The Movie front has been a tad disappointing, so it was a welcome relief to find and watch Apple+ TV’s latest original film - The Gorge. Miles Teller and Anya Joy-Taylor play two highly-skilled operatives that are chosen to guard solitary outposts on opposite sides of an highly-classified and mysterious gorge. With very little to information provided of what lurks beneath and between them, the two eventually have to help each other out -despite the vast distance between them - and inevitably find a way to bond. The movie has a refreshingly different storyline, that manages to combine a number of genres, ensuring the movie will appeal to many. The action is good, the graphics are decent (a touch Pirates of the Caribbean style which I admit I wasn’t a huge fan of) and more importantly, we have two excellent and believable characters. Unlike ‘Flight Risk’, which we recently watched and thought was terrible - The Gorge dips into the characters back-stories to set up the movie and the ensuing action keeps you interested and entertained throughout. I think movie critics have been a bit harsh - this is really good and it wouldn’t have taken much more to push this into the eight out of ten ballpark. So for us, the best new movie to watch right now and our Movie of the Month for March 2025 is The Gorge, with a very respectable 7.8/10 .</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS / DUE FOR RELEASE ON DISNEY+ 16TH MARCH 2025 Rated PG The highly popular Moana returns with Disney’s second and almost certainly not its last instalment of Moana. This second movie takes place 3 years later and reunites a slightly older Moana and Maui for their next adventure, after she is visited by her ancestors and advised of what she must do - to ensure the future of her people. The first Moana was something different at the time and the whole family were entertained. The kids have enjoyed re-watching it from time to time and I don’t mind it at all. As a grown man and a Dad however, I found Moana 2 pretty forgettable. The storyline is ok - more of the same, slightly different but predictable and I was really aware of feeling that almost every scene was in song - and that in particular irked both me and the Mrs and I found us both losing interest in the movie as it went on but I suspect the kids didn’t notice. It absolutely smashed it in the Box Office however, passing $1 Billion globally - more that the first movie managed but as a parent, it’s ‘meh’ at best. I think mid to older aged kids will like it and younger children will love it but overall, for us, it’s a bang average 6.7/10 .</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - Flight Risk (2025) - Flight Risk (2025)</image:title>
<image:caption>AVAILABLE IN SOME CINEMAS Rated 15 Directed by the legendary Mel Gibson - who brought us Apocalypto, The Passion of the Christ and Braveheart - to name but a few…and starring Hollywood favourite, Mark Wahlberg - this is bound to be a great movie…right? Nope! It’s bad. Even those with voice-only parts come across as over-acted and the only Flight Risk in this movie would be anyone paying their hard earned cash to watch it. Save your money, watch the trailer below (which is better than the full movie) and if you’re absolutely desperate to see it - wait for it to be free on streaming platforms. If you do subject yourself to watching this, you’ll see the story of an Air Marshal accompanying a fugitive to trial but “not everyone aboard is who they seem”. With only 3 on board - it’s not going to take you long to figure out whats going on and unfortunately there are no ‘The Sixth Sense’ style twists in the storyline to have you clinging on with suspense. Given that almost the entire movie is inside the plane with the 3 actors, it might have helped make the characters believable if they had broken up the same scene by delving into the characters back-stories. However, it didn’t and if you were hoping for a modern-day, Con Air style thriller you’ll be sadly let down. It feels like a low budget, lets-make-a-B-movie on our weekend off type of affair….but with the names involved we expected better. Thankfully its only an hour and a half long. For us, it’s a give-it-a-miss and thank me later - 4.8/10.</image:caption>

<image:title>MOVIES - 65 (2023) - 65 (2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX / AVAILABLE TO RENT OR BUY ON AMAZON PRIME Rated 12A 65 is not a new movie release and has been on Netflix for a while now but we stumbled across it while looking for something that wasn’t too long but also looked like it would have enough about it, to keep the attention span of our 12 year old son. On the length of movie - it’s only an hour and a half, which is exactly what we were looking for but it also has good action, suspense and an enjoyable storyline - which you would expect from the writers of the excellent “A Quiet Place” movie. It’s a small cast and is about a space pilot (Adam Driver) who needs to to go away on a 2 year transport mission from his planet, through space - to earn extra money for treatment for his sick child. It is set 65 million years ago and Adam Driver’s character is a ‘human’ from another planet similar to Earth but they have evolved to a space travelling civilisation. Of course, the journey in space doesn’t go as planned and he crashes onto a mysterious planet, which happens to be Earth, at the time of the dinosaurs. The story unfurls from there and we won’t say too much more, to spoil any enjoyment you might get from the movie. At only an hour and a half long, you can guess that the movie doesn’t dive too deep into the storylines - it could easily have been a 3 hour long epic - but just to temper your expectations, it’s a quick but fun to watch movie and I suspect its this lack of detail that leaves 65 with relatively low scores from other Movie critics/sites. Don’t be misled though - it is good, the CGI and graphics are good and its an enjoyable short watch. It could have been more, but it isn’t and we don’t mind that at all. It is a great film to watch if you are short on time or looking for action to watch with the family. We’ll stick a decimal place in the title and give it a well-worth-a-watch 6.5/10.</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX Rated 15 I don’t often get to review movies in the Horror Genre because I watch just about everything with my wife - and she hates Horror Movies but I managed to squeeze this one in recently. It’s just been released on Netflix, so I was glad to get another movie in, that falls under your standard streaming services and doesn’t require extra payment! The Pope’s Exorcist, I think would be best described as ‘Easy Horror’. It’s only a 15 Rating, so you don’t have to watch through your fingers and then immediately watch an episode of Spongebob Squarepants after, before going to bed to get your mind off the fear. It would also be a good intro to Horrors if you have teenagers in that age range, who haven’t been watching 18’s behind your back. Russell Crowe plays the part of Gabriel Amorth, who is the Vaticans main man when it comes to Exorcisms and he is sent to Spain to investigate a particularly strange possession of a young American boy, who has recently moved there with his family. Hidden secrets of the past are uncovered during his investigation and we get a good mix of storyline along with action and good CGI too! Without giving anything away, the ending could leave it open for a raft of sequels - and we hope it does. I liked it a lot, the wife actually put her kindle down and watched it all and enjoyed it too. It doesn’t get the best scores on the likes of IMDB but we’re going with a well-worth-a-watch 7.4/10</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS Rated 15 If you are ready to leave the festive period and Christmas movies behind then pop along to your local cinema and watch Gladiator II. Released in November 2024, this is an epic movie full of action, gore, fighting, solid storyline and many recognisable faces. The story is based around 16 years after the original movie and does not disappoint. This is one of our favourite movie genres and we miss the old days where we were spoiled with the original Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Troy, 300 etc - but this takes us straight back to our happy place. It’s an epic in its own right but even more so as a sequel - which has to live up to such a good original movie and then follow on from. The cast is really good - we enjoyed all the performances and the storyline had a few twists too, which was nice and the CGI is worthy of the high budget. A really solid 7.9/10 for this proper blockbuster movie! I could happily watch it again but believe the cinema is the best place to do the cinematography justice. (We believe it is starting to become available to rent at around £13.99 on some online platforms).</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS Rated 15 Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in a moving romance film - it’s got to be good…doesn’t it? It’s possibly going to be a controversial review with a lot of you but we’re sorry - we just didn’t like this one. We’re fans of both Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s work but with high expectations for this one, we thought it fell flat. That’s not to say no-one will like - we just didn’t enjoy it ourselves. Yes - there is a decent storyline, yes - your partner will likely shed a tear at some point and yes - the acting is good but for me the characters they portray are too stiff and the storyline moves too slowly. The movie follows the story of Florence Pugh’s character - an up-and-coming chef and Andrew Garfields character (a divorcee) as they meet, fall in love etc but come to face difficulties in their relationship (massive over-simplification to not spoil any plot). Some will love this, some will not - we did not. We give it 6.2/10 and would suggest saving your pennies and wait for this to land on streaming services if you really want to see it. There are better movies in the cinema right now than this (Sorry Andrew/Florence).</image:caption>

Dreamworks bring us a really nice movie that just has all the ingredients to make it enjoyable for everyone. It has a sort of Wall-E meets Zootropolis kind of vibe and has a more modern storyline to go with it. It follows the adventures of a Robot called Roz, who is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and has to adapt to its environment and surroundings. It’s robots, animals and has a sweet storyline that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside…if you are into movies like this. <image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX Rated 15 JaStarring Kelsey Asbille - who you might recognise as Monica from hit show Yellowstone, Don’t move is a really decent thriller that will definitely remind you of your claustrophobia - if you have it. It’s a thriller that follows Iris, who falls victim to a well-practiced killers tactic of injecting his victims with a paralysing agent before doing what he does best. It probably had us on edge a bit more than expected because we are now sceptical of all storylines, ever since the first episode of Game of Thrones where spoiler alert - the main character is killed off early on - which was unfathomable at the time…so we always expect directors of new movies/shows to throw in a massive curveball - that rarely comes, but makes watching other movies/shows more fun. How the story unfolds…we won’t tell you that - you’ll have to watch for yourself but its an easy watch that you should enjoy if its you sort of genre. We liked it…the critics did not - but a more than decent 6.7/10 score from us.</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX & TO RENT ON AMAZON PRIME Rated 15 - one for mid-late teens, adults and couples If you haven’t already seen it, A Man Called Otto is our Movie of the month for November. Before the inevitable transfer in most households to Christmas Themed Movies, this movie is one that you could easily pass by without considering. It doesn’t look particularly interesting on the outside and seems to have flown under the radar somewhat in its online presence with trailers etc (I don’t think we ever saw one on our Social Media feeds or elsewhere online). Put that aside though and realise that Tom Hanks is the star - which is what peaked our curiosity to give A Man Called Otto a go. It’s rated 15, so not one that younger kids are likely to enjoy but its a really lovely wholesome film that will make you wince, smile and cry (or at least bring a tear to your eye - if you have any sort of emotions). It tugs on the heart strings and we’d easily recommend it if you are looking for something easy to watch or to snuggle up to whilst the crappy UK winter weather moves in. A Solid 8/10 movie for us - give it a go and thank us later. (Our Former Movie of the Month)</image:caption>

<image:caption>AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME Rated 12A Finally - A good, new Christmas movie that you dont have to pay an additional subscription for - as you can watch this on Amazon Prime! Amazon left it a bit late in the day with this one but it’s refreshing to watch a movie that is totally different to the more cheesy, hard to watch movies and it feels like a movie that had a decent budget offered to it. The Rock and Chris Evans star in a movie that combines the stories of Santa’s Head of Security (The Rock) and Chris Evans’ bad boy character, after Santa gets kidnapped. Hopefully from that you’ll get that this is not your typical Christmas movie. It’s fun, there is plenty of action, the storyline is refreshingly different, the graphics/CGI are really good and it was an easy watch. A comfortable 6.9/10 movie from us - we’re not sure it will land on the prestigious list of Christmas classics you’ll want to watch every year but you and the family should enjoy it first time round.</image:caption>

We’ve got a really good Netflix Action Thriller here that would actually have been good enough to watch in the Cinema in our opinion but you’ll be glad to hear that you get to watch it as part of your Netflix subscription! Taron Egerton is a TSA Agent who gets blackmailed into letting a package pass through the security check at the airport he works at, on Christmas Eve and the rest of the movie follows the unfurling events that bring inevitable action and drama. Jason Bateman is the bad guy in this one and it’s really enjoyable to see him in a different sort of role from the more comedy style genre that what we’re used to from him! This is a good, fun movie to watch on your own, with your partner or your family. A better-than-decent 7.5/10 for this one from us - a good one to end the festive period.</image:caption>

Released only in the weeks leading up to Christmas, this is a Sony Marvel Movie that tells the origin story of the criminal hunter - Kraven, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. We see his life as a child and the impact of his dodgy father - played by Russell Crowe and what it leads him to in adult life. It’s a standalone film that doesn’t require you to watch any other movie in the Marvel catalogue. There are some fun scenes to watch but the Trailer is better than the movie. If you are just into Marvel/Superhero type movies - you’ll probably find this one ok and the Cinema experience will probably inflate the score for what I felt was a very average movie that I have no appetite to watch again. We give it 5.7/10 - some might score it a touch higher if they are Marvel fanatics but for the masses I’d say its a swing and a miss.</image:caption>

Dear Santa tells the story of a sweet 11 year old kid called Liam - who suffers with Dyslexia, as he accidentally makes a spelling error on his Santa Letter - inadvertently sending it to Satan instead (played by Jack Black). It’s a fun Jack Black comedy that’s a bit risqué with the language at times and a number of references to Santa not being real (which of course he is), so is better suited to those around the age rating. It’s not perfect, but we love Jack Black and it was nice to find something new that is enjoyable - because we have watched some utterly terrible, cheesy Christmas movies this year that I think we’ll call bandwagon movies - because all they have tried to do is jump on the Christmas bandwagon. A worth-a-watch 6/10 movie for us - give it a go and be thankful you didn’t watch any other new Christmas movie guff on the streaming channels so far..</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - A Man on the Inside - Season 1 (2024) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 12 On occasion, a TV Show will sneak under the radar and we won’t have seen or heard anything about it - A Man on the Inside is one of those shows. We only came to hear about it because Season 2 has just been released on Netflix and was showing up on our home page - so we decided to have an impromptu binge of Season 1 - and managed it all in one evening. I used to love ‘Cheers’ back in the day and have always had a soft spot for Ted Danson, so when the wife and I were looking for something easy to watch, with short episodes (30 mins) - this popped up and after watching the trailer - we decided to give it a go. It is funny, silly and heart-warming - all at the same. It’s a bit of a ‘whodunnit’ as well but it’s more enjoyable to watch the story unfold, enjoy the characters and their relationships, than it is putting too much time into trying to solve the mystery yourself. The co-creator of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’ is behind this one, so if you like those shows - there is a sprinkle of those, in this. To very simply sum it up, Ted Danson plays Charles - a lonely, retired Professor - who gets a new purpose in life, when he applies for a job advertised in the local newspaper - by a private investigator. After passing his interview, his job is to infiltrate a local nursing home and report his findings back - to help solve the mystery of stolen jewellery. If it wasn’t for His and Hers being so good (and my suspicion that more people would be looking for a ‘serious’ show to watch), A Man on the Inside could have been our TV Series of the Month for February - but just misses out. It is an excellent show and I’m very much looking forward to the newly released Season 2 (which looks to have an impressive cameo cast - which is a testament to how good Season 1 is) - a note-worthy 8.0/10 for this one - give it a watch. Further good news is that we understand it has been passed for a third season!</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Sandokan: The Pirate Prince (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 If (like me) you love a pirate show - then Sandokan could well be the new series to fill the long left void for left by an old favourite of mine - Black Sails, which aired back in 2014-2017. Sandokan, along with his best friend - Yanez, are renowned pirates in the South East Asia area and they - along with their crew come to blows with the British Fleet and the story unfurls from there. The show is based in the mid-1800’s, in and around the islands of South-East Asia. The British fleet are a formidable force and we get to understand their relationship with the Sultan of Brunei and his forces. You won’t be surprised to hear that Sandokan falls for an English Lady in the midst of the battling and that adds a further storyline to the show - so it is not just about Pirates on a boat. We also delve into the tribes of the local islands and further stories unfurl there too. Think ‘Black Sails’ but with a sprinkling of Bollywood. It’s a fun, easy, enjoyable watch. There are 8 x 52 minute episodes with plenty of action and there are some more well-known faces such as John Hannah, Owen Teal and Ed Westwick - which gives the show a bit of extra credibility. You’ll quickly like and dislike certain characters - which is down to the good acting. It’s very bingeworthy and is easy to follow , even if you’re not giving it your full attention. It’s worth a watch and I’m scoring it a fair and not over the top 7.1/10 .</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - His & Hers (2026) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 18 There seems to be a bit of a trend for Whodunnit, Crime-Mystery-Thrillers to start the year off - but it’s entirely coincidental and we’re please to report that this one is particularly good! ‘His & Hers’ follows Anna (played by Tessa Thompson) - a journalist and news anchor, who, for reason unknown to us in the beginning of the show - has distanced herself from her work in Atlanta, as well as her friends and family - in her hometown of Dahlonega. She now lives a somewhat reclusive life but she springs into life and offers to report on a murder that she learns has taken place in her sleepy hometown - both out of personal interest but also in attempts to reclaim her top spot job in Atlanta. Simultaneously, we are introduced to Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal) who is the local but suspicious Detective and of course - we see the high level details of the murder that starts this mini-series off. In terms of twists and turns, your suspicious mind will have you guess and questioning every single character you are introduced to and the show does a great job of having you second guessing everything that is said. Superb, Binge-Worthy mini series that you can easily take in one full day (we did!) - a solid 8.1/10 for this one - if you like a whodunnit-crime-thriller - this is a great one to start 2026 with!</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Spartacus: House of Ashur (2025) - AVAILABLE ON MGM+</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 18 16 years on from the original series of Spartacus (2010), we were shocked to find this latest reboot. Spartacus but in the day was one of my favourite shows - the acting wasn’t always the best but it was easy to immerse yourself in the show with very little effort. Despite the passing of 16 years - 10 minutes of watching House of Ashur and it feels like only yesterday. Ashur was the deceitful rat that we all loved to hate in the original series and it’s a somewhat unapologetically funny start intro to the show. Ashur, in the underworld is offered the chance to go back to the world of the living and continue his story as an alternative to an existence if the afterlife.. He chooses to go back in a different storyline that see’s him the ‘hero’ that stops Spartacus and he wakes up as the the owner of the same Ludus that once held him captive. He’s still a wily fox, only out for his own gain but you learn to like him and it’s mad to think how little he has changed in over a decade. It’s the same gore, nudity, sex and fighting storylines that we came to love in the first one but if I had to complain at all or be somewhat critical - the fight scenes are a little ‘stiff’ (no adult theme pun intended). Some of the characters don’t have the most believable or commanding presence about them and Achillia just doesn’t seem strong enough or athletic enough to convince that she is as good as she is meant to be. Maybe its the build, persona or maybe it’s just not the best choreography or execution of the choreography. One thing that I also find hard to avoid criticising and it’s a personal thing for me but when characters are pumped full of cosmetic procedures - it’s hard to see them as authentic characters of the day/time they are portraying. Graham McTavish is a great addition to the cast - you might know him best from his part as Dougal MacKenzie in Outlander. He and his acting have a presence and it helps mask some of the flaws with others. Fun, sexy, entertaining and enjoyable. Relatively quick episodes, binge-able and easy to follow along, even if you’re on your phone in the background. Not as good as the original series for the points noted above. 6.1/10 for me but I’m loyal - so I’m here for it regardless.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Red Eye, Season 1 (2024) - AVAILABLE ON ITV X</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 It is so easy to unknowingly bypass tv shows and series that are on the UK terrestrial channels but there are some real crackers to be watched. Only through a suggestion from my parents about a new Season 2 of ‘Red Eye’ did we actually hear about it at all and so we decided to check it out and only then found and decided to give Season 1 a go from 2024 and what a pleasant surprise. It’s a conspiracy-thriller that might seem a little-far-fetched to some but we found it thoroughly enjoyable! London Detective Hana Li, has to escort a Doctor on a flight back to China after a death that is being investigated - in relation to a visit by him and a team of doctors. Was it them, or is foul play at hand between two governments with sensitive relations? It becomes a mad, whodunnit, conspiracy - murder show and it is highly binge-able that jumps between the plane journey and the governments on the ground. We smashed all episodes in one weekend and look forward to getting stuck into Season 2 for what we hope is more of the same. Far fetched?…yeah, a little…..Entertaining?….absolutely - a solid 7.4/10 for this one- if you like this type of show, get onto ITV X and get it watched.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 Released in the midst of the lead up to Christmas, Fallout Season 2 landed without much recognition (in my opinion). Season 1, back in 2024 was fantastic - a different sort of post-apocalypse show - incorporating concepts that blended the past and future along with new ideas, action, adventure and dark humour. Thankfully, Amazon offer up a recap at the start of the season and to be totally honest, I’d forgotten how most of the storylines intertwined - so that was great to have it all summarised - although with the passage of a year - it’s just harder to remember what went beforehand. It’s more of the same but we know the characters now - so we get to continue their storylines and see how storylines unfurl. I love it - it’s an easy watch, it’s serious and unserious at the same time. The storylines move along pretty quickly and there is lots of gore if you’re at all squeemish! So far so good in Season 2. We’re about 3 episodes in at the time of typing, with new episodes released every week at present - 7.9/10 and expecting it to keep improving as the episodes go on.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - LANDMAN, Season 2 (2025) - AVAILABLE ON PARAMOUNT+</image:title>
<image:caption>VIA AMAZON PRIME VIDEO - ADDITIONAL SUBSCRIPTION Rated 15 We’ve been crying out for a great Series to come along before the Christmas Season hits and thank the Lord - Landman Season 2 has arrived. Season 1 is one of our favourite tv shows of recent times and we’re hoping for more of the same with Season 2. Landman is written and directed by Taylor Sheridan - who brought us the massive Yellowstone Series and subsequent under-appreciated prequels - ‘1883’ and ‘1923’ - which were fantastic in their own right. If you were into them, you should love Landman too. Season 2 continues from Season 1, centred around Billy Bob Thornton’s character Tommy Norris - who has added responsibilities to his already tough job role as Operations Manager for a large oil outfit. I’ll not spoil Season 1 for you if you have yet to see it - but make sure you go binge on it first! It more than keeps up the pace with Season 1, takes an episode or 2 to get back into it but some crazy storylines and we’re happy with the season ending and options for Season 3 storylines. You also get to look forward to seeing more of Demi Moore, Andy Garcia and the newest addition to the cast - the awesome Sam Elliott. Fantastic Season 2 - 8.0/10 kept improving as the episodes went on.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - LAST SAMURAI STANDING (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 If I had to quickly set the scene and describe to you what Last Samurai Standing is like - I’d say if you mixed the movie - ‘The Last Samurai’ with the TV show ‘Squid Game’ - that’s what we have here. It’s set in late 1800’s Japan, where - in the aftermath of what seems to be the final battle, in a war between the traditional Samurai and more Westernised Government forces - we find that the Samurai way of life is very much coming to an end and many are struggling for money in their respective communities - that are plagued with illness. In the midst of this all, open invitations circulate the country offering skilled warriors (essentially Samurai) the opportunity to enter into a mysterious Battle Royale for the chance to win a massive money prize that they all desperately seek. So we get introduced to our main characters at the opening induction to the ‘game’ and the participants have to battle it out AND cross the country in search of the final prize. Friendships, betrayals, back-stories and side-stories unravel throughout the series and we get that really fun, eccentric characters and manic fight scenes, that has become the norm for Asian shows and movies. I really enjoyed it from the off but my wife took a couple of episodes to get into it. You can watch it dubbed but I can’t stand dubbed shows and would recommend you watch it in its native tongue and have subtitles on. Would have been our TV Show of the month for November had it not been for the release of Landman Season 2! Well worth a watch and a bingeable 7.5/10 from us for this one.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - NOBODY WANTS THIS, Season 2 (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Nobody Wants This returns for a second season after the successful release of Season 1. We get 10 short episodes to binge on once again with this series, that continues to follow our two main characters… a sex podcaster and a Rabbi, as they continue to navigate the stormy seas of a relationship that is contending with their (and their families) contrasting lifestyles and beliefs. It’s more of the same with Season 2 of Nobody Wants this and you really need to watch Season 1 first, to fully understand the characters. What we didn’t like so much in this season is the growing separation in the storyline from what is believable or relatable (we get its a comedy though). The more we watched, the less we actually like the characters. With the storyline, you have a young Rabbi who is expected to be the leader of his flock - but the irony is that he is completely gormless when it comes to communicating with his partner…less funny and more ‘really?!’ Kristen Bells character isn’t much better - glimpses of likeability, equally matched by poor judgement and communication skills…for someone making a living as a podcaster…and she and her sister Morgan aren’t really very nice people full stop, when you see their actions… The annoyance with that brings it down for us compared with Season 1. If you’ve already watched and liked Season 1 - then you’re invested and should watch Season 2. It’s fine, it’s more of the same - still a fun watch but it’s only a 6.8/10 from us for this easy to watch a binge-able show.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - THE WITCHER, Season 4 (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 The Witcher returns to Netflix after an extended period, where it was highly publicised that after 3 Seasons - Henry Cavill would NOT be returning to his role as Geralt of Rivia, after reports of a fall out with the production team over the series not mirroring the books. Liam Hemsworth has since stepped in to become the new Geralt and to be honest - if you can see past the personnel change, he does a pretty decent job. The clips and trailers also do a good job helping with the transition between Cavill and Hemsworth by not showing Cavills face - so it’s trying to help you forget and remember at the same time - quite clever really! It seems however that the changeover of personnel, coupled with the overly long gap between season 3 and 4 has proved to much for a lot of people - with Season 4 viewing numbers struggling to reach 50% of the Season 3 numbers - in their respective first weeks. The Season follows a few separate storylines, that are all ultimately tied together and are the continuation of Geralt and Yennefer battling evil in their separate searches for Ciri. Yennefer has her hands full in all out wizarding/witching war against Vilgefortz and Geralt is busy crossing a continent at war, in his own quest to find Ciri. If you’ve already watched and enjoyed Season 1 - 3 - then you should give it a chance and keep it going. It’s more of the same, gets slated by the critics but it’s still a fun watch, with good action and CGI - and with all that said and taken into account - it’s a bit “meh” but still a 6.1/10 from us - for this season.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - HOUSE OF GUINESS - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Just as we needed a new TV show to binge on, Netflix release ‘House of Guinness’. Historical dramas are our favourite genre and this lands perfectly into what we love to watch. It’s written by Steven Knight - who is responsible for fantastic shows and many of our favourites, including - A Thousand Blows, SAS Rogue Heroes, Taboo and Peaky Blinders - to name but a few. House of Guinness follows the story of the Guinness family, in the aftermath of the death of the Brewery Mogul - Sir Benjamin Guinness - who had already made Guinness a somewhat global brand. He is loved and hated in equal measure by the local Dubliners, with religious and political fighting, rampant in the era - as republicans fight with those cosying up to the British. We are introduced to his 4 children, the heavy-handed Brewery Foreman and ‘the opposition’ who want the Guinness family to fall badly. The 4 siblings are very different and all have their own personal traits and troubles that influence the storyline and keep it interesting with the in-house fighting. The intermingling storylines make the show a fantastic and intriguing watch as we learn more and more about the main characters with each episode. It’s gritty, entertaining and a very binge-able 8.2/10 from us for this one, from what we have seen so far.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 Another Apple TV+ show that we’re now loving but never saw any sort or advertising for! Does anyone else have the same issue? Even with a household full of iPhones, iPads and Macs - we always seem late to the Apple TV+ party. Fret not though, as we stumbled across Your Friends & Neighbours over the weekend and in a timely fashion, have our TV Show of the Month for September. Apple TV+ have smashed it out of the park lately - with last months show of the month being their ‘Chief of War’ and it’s 2 in a row now, as we give this months coveted title to ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’. The likeable and well known Jon Hamm, pays Coop - a Hedge Fund Manager - who lives in around the shenanigans and loose-moral-code of the finance world (think Wolf of Wall Street and you’ll land in the right sort of place). Coop loses his job under questionable circumstances and this comes with frustrating repercussions. Top this, with the pressure of sustaining a certain high-living lifestyle - he resorts to robbing from his wealthy ‘friends’ in attempts to maintain the appearance, to his social network - that everything is normal. With the scene set, plus a lot more backstories and unfurling stories to intertwine (that I won’t let you in on) - we have a fun, interesting, well acted and highly bingeable show. A great show to start off the month - to watch alongside Chief of War. A very enjoyable and bingeable 8.1/10 from us for this one.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - UNTAMED - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Eric Bana plays an awkward and troubled National Parks Service Agent and the storyline circles around a pretty brutal death that happens in the National Park - that we are introduced to in an intense opening scene. It’s a 7 episode Netflix mystery thriller mini-series that circles around the investigation into this death. Foul play is clearly at hand and we are served up with this gritty ‘who dunnit?’ show that boasts spectacular scenery and beautiful cinematography. As with so many shows that find their way onto the very-good or great list - it’s the intertwining of multiple storylines that keep us well engaged and interested and this one does just that - as some of the Parks secrets from past become known during the investigation. It’s not our TV show of the month BUT if you can’t afford an Apple TV+ subscription to watch ‘Chief of War’ or ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ - then this could be the binge show for you. Some moments are a little bit unbelievable, which make for entertainment but perhaps take a little off the credibility but overall it is a big pat on the back for Netflix with this one. Great show, definitely a binge-worthy one and a well-deserved 7.4/10 from us, for ‘Untamed'.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Leanne (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 12 Watching Leanne, gave me hope that there might be hope yet for the sitcom genre - that seems to have been dying a slow death in recent years. Leanne Morgan (Comedian) plays Leanne - a Grandmother, who’s life is turned upside down after her husband of over 30 years, leaves her. The show navigates through her getting on with her life, with the ‘help’ of her loved ones. With it being a sitcom, I don’t want to give too much away but as you’ll know if you’re also from the sitcom era - there is usually a somewhat different storyline each episode but there is always the main running story, that is the backbone of the series and allows a natural progression of the story we are introduced to. It’s a really easy watch - it doesn’t take any effort and you have a whopping 17 episodes to work your way through, at whatever pace you like. Whether you want to curl up on the sofa under a blanket with a hot drink or just something pleasant to watch in the background, as you scroll through your phone after a hard days work this is a good one for the imminent cooler Autumn evenings. There are some familiar faces, such as Leanne’s on-screen sister - played by Kristen Johnston - who I best remember from the under-rated ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’ sitcom of the late 90’s. There’s also Leanne’s on-screen (separated) husband played by fellow comedian Ryan Stiles - who I best know from ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’. It’s an easy, fun, goofy, maybe somewhat relatable show - that I believe has been renewed for a second season (TBC) and a it’s an easy 7.2/10.</image:caption>

Newly released, with a new episode available every Friday, Chief of War has been fantastic in its first 2 episodes so far. Jason Momoa stars as a Hawaiin War Chief in a gruelling epic of cross-island war, family feuding, colonisation and a necessary unification of the islands to save themselves. It’s all in a native tongue with subtitles but moves at a good pace, has lots of action, with a really interesting, unfurling storyline. It is beautifully filmed and the acting is top notch so far. Season 3 picks up where we left off at the end of Season 2 and continues with the game, seeing it through to its conclusion. Will the police find them all in time? What characters will and won’t survive? What new games will we see introduced? There were a lot of unanswered questions with Season 2 finale… All these questions are answered in another fun to watch, super-binge-worthy season that see’s the end of the show…or does it...? As with most follow-up seasons, we know the general storyline - so the surprise factor is more-or-less gone but now we invested in characters and the unravelling of the storyline. <image:title>TV SHOWS - Sirens (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Hmmm…Sirens has left me scratching my head a bit. If I had to quickly describe my thoughts on this one to you, I’d say it’s a bit like a new, dark-themed but light and airily-filmed, Desperate Housewives kind of vibe - with a smaller cast of main characters and all squashed into a mini-series and I don’t really know what I think about it. Most will know that ‘Sirens’ in Greek Mythology are creatures who lured sailors to their doom with their enchanting voices and I guess the premise of this show is along those lines (without knowing any background to the show in advance) but in a non-nautical setting, having you questioning if this is a drama/comedy or a murder mystery with foul play at hand. Two estranged sisters, with their own troubled pasts (and present lives) re-unite, when the older, rough-around-the-edges sister, seeks out her younger sibling after the passage of a lot of time - without meaningful dialogue and particularly as she has been left, struggling to care for their unwell Father. She finds her sister working on an island for a wealthy couple (Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore) and it appears to be a very cult-like scenario with a lot of secrets surround the goings on there. I like the acting, it’s easy to watch but I can only score it a 6.1/10. This seems harsh but its only because you don’t really know what is going on or what is meant to be going on and that really irritated me. The filming and editing included what felt like random, blurry/dream like scenes or points in the show where there are mystical chime sounds that you are alerted to - and you don’t know if it is a dream or if there is meant to be magical powers by some of the characters and it is never really addressed. When the show ended, I felt it was really anti-climactic because of those confused feelings and lack of understanding they caused. It worth a watch but go in with low expectations.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Clarkson’s Farm 4 (2025) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Clarkson’s Farm was a revelation when the first series aired. An army of Petrol Head fans were forced to ditch cars for tractor’s to get their Jeremy Clarkson fix, following the end of the fantastic Grand Tour and I think everyone was surprised at just how good this show ended up being. If you don’t know, Jeremy Clarkson is a somewhat outspoken tv star, following years on Top Gear and The Grand Tour. Following the retirement of a farmer running a Farm he owned, Jeremy decided to giving Farming a go himself. As a person with no apparent farming experience, we get to experience Jeremy struggle with what our nations farmers are contending with every day and it makes for a great watch. He hires local young farmer - Kaleb Cooper and Kaleb blossoms, while managing his novice, much older apprentice/boss. The show becomes very endearing - we see the frailties in farming, we are entertained by Jeremy’s approach and the calamity that follows most of his decisions. Season 4 brings us more of the same and it’s great. We meet a new “character”, whilst Kaleb is touring the nation and we continue to see Jeremy attempt to put his ideas into practice, to making not just his own farm successful but also in attempts to help his farming community. It’s a great watch and great entertainment. It’s a easy binge and as well as the laugh out loud moments that typically occur when something goes wrong, there are heart warming moments too. Obviously with the tv show and his personal wealth, Jeremy Clarkson has the ability to try many more ideas that the everyday farmer - which you can fully understand and appreciate - but it’s one of our favourites and we’re delighted to know there’s a 5th season in the making too. A well-deserved 8.6/10 from us.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - The Four Seasons (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 A new TV series written by Tina Fey and starring Steve Carell - you’ve got our attention! The Four Seasons follows the story of 3 middle-aged couples, who holiday with each other every season but spoiler alert - it gets a little awkward when one of the couples separates. It’s a somewhat dark, yet fun…but not necessarily funny series, that follows the stories and struggles of 3 very different couples, when they meet up for their seasonal getaways together. It’s an easy watch, you will laugh out loud or at worst crack a smile at times. You will cringe, criticise and eyeroll some of the actions of the characters but whether you are looking for something to have on in the background whilst you doom-scroll on your phone at night or if you are looking for something fun and easy to watch (with a few twists in it) then this fits the bill. It’s a very comfortable 7.1/10 from us. You’ll enjoy watching it but might be a little underwhelmed if you were expecting all out laughs. It’s a more serious performance from Steve Carell despite the comedy undertones.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - The Last of Us (Season 2) - AVAILABLE ON SKY TV</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 The Last of Us first hit our screens in early 2023 and was a massive hit. If you are a fan of Movies like I Am Legend, World War Z or Shows like The Walking Dead etc - The Last of Us will be right up your street. If you didn’t watch Season 1 - go back and binge on it first as you need the backstory and if you did watch Season 1 the first time round, make sure you watch the recap of Season 1 before watching Season 2 - without realising, you will have forgotten most of what happened. (Here is a link for you > >) https://youtu.be/gTp7hqLOw7U?si=2HngpqWir83NF5n1 The Last of Us is based in 2023 - 20 years after a global pandemic, where a fungus has infected most of the worlds population, turning them into zombies. It follows the story of Pedro Pascals character (Joel Miller), who is hired by a group of survivors to smuggle a 14 year old girl (played by Bella Ramsey) to them, as they believe she might hold the key to the survival of humanity. Season 2 picks up 4/5 years after the events of Season 2, where the 14 year old - Ellie, is now a 19 year old. She seems to hold resentment against Joel (Pedro Pascal) and there is an awkwardness and distrust in the relationship now. We struggled to find the same enthusiasm for the show in Season 2 after a pretty dull first episode back but be patient if you feel the same, things heat up big-style in episode 2. Episodes are currently being released 1 week at a time, so we look forward to seeing how the season keeps up the pace after the second episode. We’re sitting at 7.6/10 for Season 2 so far but we hope it continues to improve after the slow start of Episode 1.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Landman (2024-) - AVAILABLE ON PARAMOUNT+</image:title>
<image:caption>VIA AMAZON PRIME VIDEO - ADDITIONAL SUBSCRIPTION Rated 15 If you have a Yellowstone-shaped void in your life after the end of that fantastic show, then fret not - Taylor Sheridan seems to have nailed the recipe for a great show, with not just Yellowstone, but also prequels ‘1883’ and ‘1923’ and now his latest show - Landman. Landman centres around Billy Bob Thornton’s character Tommy Norris - a tough operations manager for an Oil Company - in a land where everyone seeks out riches. It’s a stressful job that blurs the line between legal and illegal on a daily if not hourly basis, and he pulls no punches as he ‘gets things done’. It is the same sort of action and storylines as Yellowstone but there are no horses this time. He has to contend with Drug Cartels, Oil Bosses, his own alcohol addiction and far-from-simple family situation - let alone the daily dangers of the actual oil extraction work. His daughter Ainsley, is a face you will recognise from her part in Sheridan’s ‘1923’ series and as a pretty, late teen - she ensures her antics keep him on edge. Ali Larter (you’ll recognise her face from the Final Destination movie) plays Angela Norris - Tommy’s ex-wife and boy oh boy is she a handful. You’ll soon see why he’s an alcoholic. The show moves at a good pace, there is plenty of action to keep your attention and with Taylor Sheridan as the writer - nothing is off the table. The acting is really good all round and Billy Bob Thornton excels in the role. It is no surprise to see the show nominated for awards this year. If you loved Yellowstone, you’ll love this - 8.4/10.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Mobland (2025) - AVAILABLE ON Paramount+</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 18 2025 has served up better TV Shows than Movies so far and Mobland is the latest show to keep us well entertained! Tom Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, a ‘fixer’ for a notorious crime family called the Harrigans, led by Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan) and his wife Maeve (Helen Mirren). Harry often has to choose his work over his own family - which gives him his own personal problems but there is nowhere to hide and no day without issues in the crime world for Harry - as he struggles to keep everyone’s house in order. There are intertwining storylines that all lead into each other and its fast-paced action from the outset. It’s great stuff, with a melody of directors including Guy Ritchie and the only complaint is that the series wasn’t released in one go to binge on….its how Paramount+ get you for more that 1 month on their subscription. It’s a massive 8.6/10 from us for what we’ve seen so far. (It was a coin-flip to choose this or Landman for TV Show of the month for May)!</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - The Studio (2025) - AVAILABLE ON APPLE TV+</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 What a surprise treat Seth Rogen has served up, with the newly released “The Studio”. This is show that requires your full attention (so put the phone away while watching) and follows Seth Rogens character - Matt Remick, as he becomes the Studio Head for Continental Movies. He loves and lives for movies and has worked in the movie making industry his whole life, so all his dreams come true when his predecessor is fired and he gets to take over as the one in charge. The job is not what it seems though and we’re cast (pun intended) into a calamitous and stressful environment of high pressure decision making and executive in-fighting, as the big-wigs demand the opposite of what Matt wants to create - great movies. It is a pretty fast moving and anxiety inducing satirical show, that I have really enjoyed so far. On the other side, my wife - who did not put her phone away whilst watching, hasn’t given it the attention to enjoy as much and would score it low, if that gives you a better insight of what to expect. It’s one of those shows that instantly messes with you visually, its very brown and the fashion and decor suggest it is set in the 1960’s or 1970’s but it doesn’t hide its modernness with cars and mobile phones etc. Each episode is packed with cameo’s, giving it a similar vibe to the massively popular “Entourage” show and who doesn’t love the idea of seeing behind the scenes of Hollywood movie production? It won’t be for everyone but I think its brilliant - 8.2/10.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Last One Laughing UK (2025) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Something definitely a bit different to watch! Jimmy Carr presents a comedic Royal Rumble TV Show, where 10 UK Comedians face off against each other in a Big Brother type setting. The aim of the game is to make others smile and laugh but you are not allowed to smile or laugh yourself or risk being eliminated. There are challenges added by ‘Big Brother’ Jimmy throughout, to move the process of elimination along - that put the comedians poker faces to the test. It uses a football card system where if you are caught smiling or laughing, its a yellow card and a second offense is a red card - with the expelled contestant getting to join presenter Jimmy and somewhat co-commentator/presenter Roisin Conaty in the viewing gallery. It’s not particularly exciting but there is a weirdly fun satisfaction in watching the laugh-enducing pro’s struggle to keep dead pan faces throughout. There are only 6 episodes, with 2 still to be released at the time of typing but its an easy binge if you are looking for some light-hearted fun, that takes no brain-power to watch or concentrate on. It’s such a simple concept but you find yourself smiling throughout - 7.8/10 for originality.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - Adolescence (2025) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 Well….this mini series is quite something. It is smashing records all over the place for views and I can see why. Stephen Graham is also hot property in tv and movies at the moment, so make sure to check out “A Thousand Blows” - our TV Series of the Month for March. Adolescence is the story of a 13 year old boy, accused of murdering one of his schoolmates. The show follows the intertwined stories of his arrest and how everyone is affected by this tragic incident - as they all seek to find out and understand what really happened and you as the viewer are waiting for the big plot twist in what is going on. It is a really well acted and well filmed, psychological drama - that captures so many emotions. It’s not fast paced, but it is gripping. If you are a parent of a young teen, this is one of your worst nightmares and the undertone is to bring attention to the dangers of social media and the threat of misogynistic influences on young males. You’ll wish your kids didn’t have social media after watching this. It’s 4 x 1hour episodes making it easily bingeable in a day. You probably don’t want to watch it if you suffer from social media anxiety already - its pretty dark from the get-go but otherwise, it’s well worth a watch if you like this sort of genre. If you want something more light hearted to watch - steer clear. It’s a chilling watch and for those into this genre and we’re giving it a 8.1/10 .</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 18 1923 Returns for a second season one of Taylor Sheridans prequel to the amazing Yellowstone series. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star again, as we follow the Dutton Family and their struggles to survive a brutal era of Western Expansion, Prohibition and the Great Depression. Make sure you watch Season 1 first, to understand the progressing storylines and the parts the characters play in this. It’s cruel, gritty and tough but its well acted, with great casting and everything is believable. It is only being released one episode a week at the time of typing this but if you loved Season 1, then Season 2 has started off with more of the same. With it’s darker storyline, you probably won’t want to binge it or pop it on for a jolly episode of something before heading to bed but its fantastic tv and a must watch. A proper, gritty, modern take on the old West and a deserved 8.2/10 so far.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - REACHER Season 3 (2025) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 In terms of TV options, 2025 has really spoiled us so far. And it keeps going with the return of Season 3 of “Reacher” on Amazon Prime. The overall story follows Jack Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson) - a former military policeman, who is wrongfully imprisoned for murder. Once released, he seeks out answers and retribution. Whilst doing so, he ends up in the midst of crime and corruption but utilises his unique skillset to see justice served, his way. Season 3 is a new storyline that continues on from the first 2 seasons. It’s a great show, captivating storyline, moments of humour, plenty of action and the only downside is that Amazon only released the first 3 episodes of Season 3 to begin with, followed by one a week thereafter. If you haven’t seen Season 1 and 2 yet - make sure to go back and watch those first - as you’ll want the whole story. Season 3 is more of the same - and we love it. <image:title>TV SHOWS - A THOUSAND BLOWS (2025) - AVAILABLE ON DISNEY+</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 18 We have been binging tv series pretty hard these last few months and were gutted that it seemed we had run through everything worth watching…alas we had nothing to fear! Steven Knight (of Peaky Blinders & our recent favourite - SAS Rogue Heroes) bring us A Thousand Blows - not a particularly inspiring Title but if you love a good period drama like Peaky Blinders, Taboo or Ripper Street then you are going to absolutely love our TV Show of the month for March - A Thousand Blows! Stephen Graham stars in this epic show that follows a number of storylines - that are largely based around 2 Jamaican best friends who arrive in Londons East End in search of a better life, following tragic events in their homeland. They soon find out that won’t be easy and are immediately aware of the criminal activity surrounding them in the East End of London. In their own battle for survival on these mean streets, it’s not long before their paths cross those in these criminal circles. An underground bareknuckle boxing scene in London’s East End is the basis for which most of the story circles around and gets mixed in with the allure of and rivalry with a more professional boxing scene in the posher West End. We could watch it all day if we could and wish there were more ready. A hugely binge-worthy 8.6 /10 for this one.</image:caption>

American Primeval is a gritty, dark series that is based in mid-1800’s America. It intermingles and progresses a number of characters storylines really well during this violent time in American history, where Government, religion, cults and Native American’s clash - as they all try to stake their claim in this new world. It’s a violent struggle for survival for everyone in this time but if it’s your genre, you should really like this one. <image:caption>Rated 15 Finally! Outlander is back! If, like us - you are a die hard follower of the series, you’ll have waited well over a year for Part 2 of Season 7 - but it’s here now. Frustratingly, it’s another show that you can only see through an additional subscription to the standard streaming services and they are releasing the episodes weekly - no doubt a trick of the trade to get more than one months subscription out of you. Spoilers aplenty will appear on your social media feeds, if you aren’t keeping up to date with the episodes - so perhaps you should just treat yourself this winter and enjoy watching the latest adventures and misadventures of Jamie and Claire. My wife has already been in tears watching it. We’re massively biased towards this show, having watched it for nearly 10 years now - so far, this season is 8/10 from us. *If you haven’t gotten into Outlander at all yet, you can watch Season 1 on Amazon Prime as part of your standard Prime TV Subscription. If you do that and find that you love it, get that MGM+ Subscription through Amazon and binge your way through almost 70 episodes to get your moneys worth out of that additional £4.99 subscription.</image:caption>

It’s been highly publicised this year that Kevin Costner would not be returning to reprise the role of John Dutton this season after a conflict of schedules between the filming of this series and his own Western Movies. We’re not going to lie - that was a big negative for us - but as with all long-running shows, you adopt the characters you’re used to and we loved Costner in this. That being said, we’ve waited a month to get back into it and the show is still as crazy as ever - even without Costner involved this time. You can set your phone down and pay attention to this one! Still an easy 8.5/10 show for us - a must watch. *If you haven’t gotten into Yellowstone at all yet, you are in for a treat. Although you have to pay an additional £6.99/month for the Paramount+ Subscription, I believe you can get a free 7 day trial. If the free trial isn’t still on, pay the £6.99 and binge the show like crazy ! UPDATE - Jan 2025- Season 1 - 4 now available on Netflix</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 SAS ROGUE HEROES - SEASON 1 (2022) has to be one of the BBC’s best productions to date - it was an absolute hoot! It is full of action, suspense, comedy, great sound track - character to love, characters to hate and grow to love….we couldn’t fault it and it is the best of binge-worthy with its 6 x 1 hour long episodes. It tells the story of the formation or creation of the infamous Special Forces Unit and is based on the book by Ben Macintyre but is written for TV by Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders, See & Taboo among other great shows. Season 1 is set during the WW2 fight for control of the Med through establishing footholds in North Africa in 1941 and each episode is great, high octane and full of madness. Season 2 however gets a bit more serious & there are more emotions in play for the viewer, as the force fight to survive and even keep the SAS regiment alive, as their missions move on from North Africa into Sicily and then onto Italy. It’s a great follow up, to a hard-to-top Season 1 and we can’t wait for a 3rd Season. Watch it, binge it, love it - Season 1 is a 8.6/10 for us and Season 2 follows up with a very impressive 8.1/10.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - SQUID GAME, Season 2 - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 It’s been so good to get a number of shows back on our screens that we’ve had to wait years for - even better when it’s on one of the main streaming channels and not requiring a further subscription. We were big fans of the massively popular Squid Game when the first season was released back in 2021. It gave us something totally different to what was available at the time and we’re not put off watching a show with subtitles…please don’t watch foreign shows with English voice-overs/dubbing - it really ruins the watching experience! Season 2 picks up a few years on from the first squid games but generally speaking it follows on with more of the same that we had in Season 1. It does have a new storyline that ensures it isn’t just a duplication of Season 1 but we still head back through the games with an almost new cast. Season 2 is only 7 episodes long - so is an easy binge watch over a long weekend if you prefer to do that. As with most follow-up seasons, is not as good as the first season but only because the element of surprise is gone and you know what to expect. It’s a really enjoyable to watch 7.6/10 from us.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - THE DURRELLS (2016-2019) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX AND ITV X APP / AVAILABLE TO BUY ON AMAZON PRIME</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 12 If you love a light-hearted period drama and have only gotten into the genre in recent years, there is a good chance you will have missed a fantastic show called ‘The Durrells’, that you should really add to your watch list. It’s based in the 1930’s and has a really simple storyline, that follows Louisa Durrell as she struggles to raise her 4 quirky children after the passing of her husband. With a combination of money troubles and issues with her kids lives, she makes the decision to move them all to Corfu and we get to watch them attempt to fit in and adapt to Corfu life. You’ll get to enjoy 4 seasons of the show, when it sadly draws to a end and leaves you gutted that there wasn’t a 5th season. The simple storyline feeds the craving a lot of us have inside of moving abroad and you’ll be drawn in by the brilliant acting, that endears every single character in the show, to you. We’re giving this one a well deserved 8.6 /10</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - CROSS, Season 1 (2024) - AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME</image:title>
<image:caption>RATED 15 If we step away from movies and have a look at a TV series for you to binge on, then you might want to check out Cross, Season 1 on Amazon Prime, which stars Aldis Hodge, who some of you may remember from an old favourite series of ours called Leverage. Cross is a crime-drama-thriller that follows DC Metro Detective - Alex Cross as he puts his skillsets to use in trying to find the criminals, whilst battling his own issues too. It’s an 8-part series that follows one storyline from start to finish - so you have to watch from the beginning and watch each episode to ensure you dont miss any important info - which makes it binge-worthy. The storyline is pretty good although flawed at times (where you’ll say “they would say that in real life or that wouldn’t happen in real life”) but don’t let it take you away from what is a better than decent show. You’ll also recognise some other faces of the cast such as Ryan Eggold, who plays the main doctor (Doctor Max Goodwin) in another hit show - New Amsterdam. This one gets a Solid 7/10 from us - definitely worth a watch if its a genre you are into.</image:caption>

<image:title>TV SHOWS - THE GENTLEMEN, SEASON 1 (2024) - AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX</image:title>
<image:caption>Rated 15 An 8 episode Brit Dark Comedy Thriller series brought to you by none other than Guy Ritchie, who delves into a TV series adaption, that has all the traits of his famous movies. The critics weren’t a huge fan of this series, which was release earlier this year - but we were hooked after one episode and binged on it pretty hard. It follows the story of aristocrat Eddie Horniman, who inherits his family estate - much to the dismay of his troubled and entitled older brother but he soon finds out that his late father dabbled in illegal business to fund their family lifestyle. Expect wacky storylines, mad characters and laugh out loud, whilst shaking-your-head-moments throughout. This one is up in the 8’s for us, we’ll go 8.1 /10 - definitely worth a watch if you like Guy Ritchies work and we look forward to a second season.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rated 15 Nobody Wants This is a new 10-part series (25minute episodes) that follows two main characters…one is a sex podcaster and the other a Rabbi, who fall for each other and the series watches to see if they can make their new relationship work despite such contrasting lifestyles and beliefs. Kristen Bell (Bad Moms) and Adam Brody (The O.C.) star in this really easy to watch series that is both fun and naughty. It is definitely one that we think the ladies will enjoy more than the gents but either way - its an easy watch for singletons or couples who are looking for something they can either concentrate on and get into fully or flick through your phone whilst watching half-heartedly. This one gets a Solid 7.5/10 from us and with the short 25 minute episodes, you can easily binge the entire series over the course of a weekend.</image:caption>
