The Rip (2026)

AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX

Rated 15

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon re-unite in this Netflix exclusive movie - and we’re fans of both these guys.

Not to jump into a rant of any sort but if you watch a lot of streaming services, you’ll no doubt agree that we are bombarded with an awful amount of sub-par, ‘guff’ - no doubt a reflection of a need to spew out movies in quantity, rather than quality? And I’m sure this is in no doubt down to reduced budgets - when compared with the high budget blockbusters of old.

Now - when ‘I’ do TV and Movie reviews - I’m not subject to advanced screenings - I’m just letting you know what I’ve seen at a given time and what I think about it - so ‘The Rip’ isn’t my movie of the month for January - only because I’ve only just watched it in the last few days - but it would have been if I’d seen it at the start of the Month.

For me, it is not a blockbuster movie but it gets a lot more hype by being fronted by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon…and seems to be far better advertised in the media as a result - they seem to be having quite the press tour. In my opinion, this is the standard of movie we should be seeing from the streaming services - it’s excellent. Some of the critics out there are chopping it to pieces and not giving it the best review but for me it’s better than good.

It’s a Police-Crime-Thriller that has enough action to keep your attention and if you like a “whodunnit” thriller - this should keep you guessing right up to the end. The movie follows a team of Miami Cops who are tipped off about a stash of illegally sought money, in a house in the suburbs and they make plans to head in to retrieve the loot.

They happen across a lot more money than was anticipated and we see different sort of pressures added to the relationships within the group and begin to wonder who is loyal, who is corrupt and who can or cannot be trusted.

In the sphere of streaming movies, I cannot score this anything less than a more than solid 7.5/10 - and with it being a success, I hope it leads to not just a Rip 2, 3 etc but I hope it also starts to set the standard of movie we can hope to see more of, on these subscription services. Have a quick watch of the trailer below - if you like the look of it, go for it!
