A Minecraft Movie (2025)
AVAILABLE IN CINEMAS
Rated PG
If you have young children, you’ll probably know a fair bit of what Minecraft is. For those of you not so familiar - it’s a computer game. Everything is very simple graphics, created in a block/cube shaped manner and players can build or dig almost everything they desire in various worlds. There is more to it than that but that’s the basic premise. Kids love it and I mean love it….and it spans across a decent age range of kids who play it.
A Minecraft Movie takes the game and makes a film out of it. My youngest, who is a player and fan of the game absolutely loved the movie. Jack Black himself is an infectious character and he exudes fun and energy in everything we see him do and he is no different in this movie.
The Movie follows a group of misfits, with their own respective struggles in life but who’s paths cross. Circumstances result in them being pulled through a mysterious portal that transports them to a strange cubic world, that they have to survive and overcome before they are able to make it back home.
It won’t be easy and they have to navigate many hurdles that also help them see their own inner qualities that make them who they are.
As a parent/adult watching the movie, its a fun and easy watch that you can see will primarily appeal to the 2 - 13 age range and its not a painful watch for accompanying parents. It’s refreshing to see Jack play the hero role and Jason Momoa play a more silly character. It has Jumanji vibes if you were to compare it to another storyline.
It’s not one that parent’s or adults will necessarily care about at all but if you have kids who play the game, they’ll love it and its not too painful to sit and watch with them. It’s a 6.2/10 but kids will say its a 10/10.
