Mercy (2026)
AVAILABLE ON Amazon Prime TV
Rated 12A
A really simple and interesting movie idea, featuring two Hollywood A-Listers in Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson.
The movie is set in a not-so-distant future, LA -type city where the aged justice system - strewn with human errors — is replaced by the Mercy system - an AI system that becomes the judge and jury of homocide cases, having access to all files, photos and videos in a surveillance heavy society - generally resulting in guilty parties being executed.
Police Detective Chris Raven (Pratt) is a big fan of the system and he and his partner were involved in ‘Case 1’ - the very first homicide case that put a suspect into the Mercy chair and resulted in an AI-mandated execution. He was then involved in a total of 8 Mercy Cases that resulted in executions since. Ferguson plays the face of the Mercy AI Judge.
The story takes a twist though, when Chris Raven wakes up and find himself in the Mercy chair - accused of Murdering his wife. The Mercy system offers a 90 minute period for accused to plead their innocence and if the timer runs out, its game over for the accused.
That sets the scene for the movie being a frantic-paced attempt by Raven to plead his innocence before his time expires.
Some critics complained that Ferguson playing a face-only character and Pratt being strapped to a chair for the bulk of the movie, doesn’t fully utilise their acting talents but if you’re just looking for a fun and entertaining movie to fill your evening - this is a good option.
Easy to watch, definitely entertaining and gets a worth-a-watch, but don’t get too overexcited about 6.5/10 .
