What is it About?
Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a man who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with very little idea of where he is, why he's there or even who he is.
As his memories slowly begin to return, Grace discovers that he's actually a science teacher who has somehow ended up being sent light years from Earth on an incredibly important mission. A mysterious phenomenon is threatening the Sun and, ultimately, life on Earth, leaving Grace tasked with finding a solution before it's too late.
Alone, a very long way from home and with considerably more responsibility on his shoulders than your average science teacher, he has to rely on his scientific knowledge and ingenuity to work out exactly what is happening.
I'll stop there, because this is definitely one where the less you know going in, the better.
My Thoughts:
We’re big fans of Ryan Gosling and he puts in another thoroughly enjoyable performance here. It’s suitable for the family, and does a really good job with the comedy, drama and adventure - maybe not suitable for the youngest kids but adults will enjoy as much, if not more than the kids. Feel good, and surprisingly warm for a film based largely alone, in space!
