HOUSE OF GUINESS
AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX
Rated 15
Just as we needed a new TV show to binge on, Netflix release ‘House of Guinness’.
Historical dramas are our favourite genre and this lands perfectly into what we love to watch. It’s written by Steven Knight - who is responsible for fantastic shows and many of our favourites, including - A Thousand Blows, SAS Rogue Heroes, Taboo and Peaky Blinders - to name but a few.
House of Guinness follows the story of the Guinness family, in the aftermath of the death of the Brewery Mogul - Sir Benjamin Guinness - who had already made Guinness a somewhat global brand. He is loved and hated in equal measure by the local Dubliners, with religious and political fighting, rampant in the era - as republicans fight with those cosying up to the British.
We are introduced to his 4 children, the heavy-handed Brewery Foreman and ‘the opposition’ who want the Guinness family to fall badly. The 4 siblings are very different and all have their own personal traits and troubles that influence the storyline and keep it interesting with the in-house fighting. The intermingling storylines make the show a fantastic and intriguing watch as we learn more and more about the main characters with each episode.
It’s gritty, entertaining and a very binge-able 8.2/10 from us for this one, from what we have seen so far.
